When I brought home my Labrador Retriever, I thought I was ready. Everyone warned me about the shedding, the energy, the constant need for attention. “Labs are amazing family dogs,” they said, “but prepare yourself for the fur.”
Well… friends, nothing, NOTHING, prepared me for the sheer, mind-blowing volume of dog hair that now permanently decorates my house. I’m convinced my Lab sheds enough to create an entirely new Labrador every week. RIP to both the Roomba and Shark robot vacuum task force that valiantly tried (and failed) to keep up.
But as every Lab parent knows, despite the shedding, the drool, the sock stealing, and the constant zoomies, life with a Lab is pretty wonderful. They’re goofy, loyal, endlessly loving, and absolutely worth every tumbleweed of fur rolling across the floor.
So, after learning the hard way, I’ve rounded up my must-have items for surviving and thriving in life with a Lab. Consider these my tried-and-true Amazon favorites for keeping your house intact and your Lab happy.

The Vacuum That Won’t Quit
Labs shed. A lot. Like… a lot. A sturdy vacuum is non-negotiable if you ever want to see your floors again. I finally found one that could survive the daily battle against fur tumbleweeds (and yes, it’s now practically part of my family).
BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Cordless Hand Vacuum
Our lab is not allowed on our sofas and chairs but somehow there still manages to be fur on them. That’s why I love the BISSELL Pet Hair Eraser Cordless Hand Vacuum. It’s lightweight, cordless, and comes with attachments that make it easy to get into all the nooks and crannies where fur hides. It picks up fur like nothing else I’ve used.
I mostly use this one for sofas and upholstery (it’s perfect with the upholstery tool), while I keep my other vacuum for tackling hard floors. The easy-empty dirt bin is a lifesaver, no more fussing with messy bags and the lithium-ion battery gives plenty of power to clean up daily shedding.
It’s one of those must-haves for Lab families where fur is just part of the décor!
The Indestructible Dog Bed
If your Lab is anything like mine, fluffy beds last approximately 14 seconds before they’re shredded into a snowy explosion of stuffing. Enter: the indestructible dog bed. It’s durable, chew-resistant, and somehow still comfortable enough that my Lab actually sleeps on it instead of the couch.
UnHide Floof Pet Bed
If you’ve ever lived with a Lab, you know they love to sprawl out and claim all the comfy spots in the house. This bed is a little more boujee than the last but well worth it. Our yellow Lab is obsessed with the UnHide Floof Pet Bed. It’s extra soft, perfectly sized, and the faux fur cover feels like a cloud. I love that the cover is removable and machine washable (because, let’s be honest, muddy paws happen often around here).
This bed doesn’t just look pretty in our living room—it actually helps ease pet anxiety and gives my Lab the coziest sleep. The taupe “Ducky” color blends seamlessly with our home decor too, which is a win in my book. They also have blankets for humans that are next level soft!

Treats They’ll Do Backflips For
Labs are very food motivated (understatement of the century). Training, bribing, or simply getting two minutes of peace all require the right treats. I keep a stash of durable, tasty chews and crunchy biscuits that last more than a nanosecond.
Kong Leash
This leash has been great for walking our lab. I love that it has an extra handle at the bottom to grab him and pull him closer quickly when needed. The padding is comfortable and there isn’t any give in the leash, ensuring I can keep him under control.
Toys Tough Enough for a Lab
If toys were a competition, my Lab would be the reigning heavyweight champion of destruction. But these toys actually hold up (bonus points if they involve a tennis ball—Labs live for a good game of fetch).
VISTOP Non-Slip Splash Pad
Labs are notorious water lovers, and since we don’t have a pool, this VISTOP Non-Slip Splash Pad has been the perfect summer solution. At 67 inches, it’s big enough for our Lab to splash and play, and the sturdy, thick plastic has held up beautifully — we’ve already used it for two summers! He loves to bite at the water streams and gets the zoomies and runs through it. It keeps him cool on hot days and gives us all a reason to laugh and play outside.

Why This List Exists
Owning a Lab is equal parts chaos and joy. They’re furry wrecking balls with hearts of gold, and I wouldn’t trade mine for anything. If you’re living the Lab life—or about to—this list will help you stock up on the essentials so you can spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying that goofy, lovable face.

Because when it comes to Labradors, you can’t stop the shedding… but you can make life a little easier (and a lot more fun).
All the best,
